Adopting Network Animal
Thank you for considering adopting an animal from The Rehome Network.

Rehome Network animals are NOT IN THE CARE OF NPO CATNIP. We have no legal responsibility for them.

If you adopt an animal from the Rehome Network you will thus be dealing ultimately with a third party.

Be cautious in your dealings with Third Parties. We make no guarantees about their behaviour. If things go wrong, we accept no responsibility for the animal. If you have paid money to someone to cover veterinary costs, we accept no responsibility.

Some Network Rehomers may accept applications in English – but most do not.

If you are a foreigner and you do not have excellent Japanese, including a good grasp of kanji, we strongly suggest you get the assistance of a native Japanese speaker before using the Rehome Network.

As a condition of placing their animal on the Network, Network Rehomers have agreed that they will

Rehome responsibly, doing adequate checks on you. (This means they must feel they are able to communicate with you.)

not attempt to recoup more than a certain amount from you to cover vaccination / microchipping and neutering

rehome with a formal agreement, including a vaccination / microchipping and neutering agreement.

[if you want to see in detail what Network rehomers have to agree to before we allow them onto the Network, check out the pages and the webform here. The checks we do are for our benefit – you are still responsible for doing your own checks.

The Rehomer is primarily an advocate for the animal - and it's the animals interests that will be foremost in our, and their minds when we talk to you.

IMPORANT: At some point the Network Rehomer is going to ask you for your name, address and contact details so they can check you are a suitable owner.

They are also going to want to meet you, and possibly come to your home.

If you do not feel comfortable with this, please do not try to rehome a network animal.

The Rehome Network adoption process starts with you filling out a Network “Apply to adopt” web-form. This is quite detailed and will take at least 15 minutes. [Note: we are still working on this - in the first instance contact us using our simple contact form.]

You can fill out either the English or Japanese language form – but if the Network Rehomer has specified that your application must be in Japanese the free-text you type into the form MUST be in Japanese. (Our system will translate the questions and the fixed-response answers into Japanese. It will not translate “free text” answers. Please use “Proper Japanese” - we will reject anything that looks like it has been machine/google translated.)

We need to know:

“Private Contact Information”

This is for NPO CATNIP's use – we will ask for your home address, email address and a telephone contact number. This is for our benefit. WE WILL NEVER GIVE THIS TO THE NETWORK REHOMER.

“Shared Contact Information”

This information will be passed on to the Network Rehomer. It must include at least the first 3 digits of your Postcode, your city name and either your email address and/or a telephone number. The email address and/or telephone number should be the same as the one in the Private Contact Information section.

Your application comes to us, here at NPO CATNIP.

We will review it. We may contact you.

If we think you might possibly be a suitable applicant, we will pass the application, with the “Shared Contact Information” to the rehomer.

If the Network Rehomer wants to take your application forward, they will contact you directly in their native language using your “Shared Contact Information”

If not, they will contact us and we will let you know.

What the Rehomer will want to check with you:

1: that your lease permits you to keep an animal.
2: that you are a suitable person to keep an animal
3: That you will follow through on any vaccination, micro-chipping and neutering agreement that goes with the animal.
4: We encourage them to visit your home to check you have suitable accommodation - or at least ask for photos.

Ultimately, that is quite a lot of personal information you will be passing on to someone you, and we, do not know.

USE CAUTION IN YOUR DEALINGS WITH THIRD PARTIES!

What you should check

1: that the animal is healthy and in good condition.
2: that the description of the animal, and where it is up to with neutering, vaccinations and microchipping, is accurate, and the rehomer has certificates and receipts.
3: That the rehomer is not trying to recoup more than the amount specified on the web-page.
4: That the rehomer is not presenting the animal as an NPO CATNIP animal.
5: That the rehomer is not trading in animals.

The animal must be rehomed with a formal rehoming agreement. It is your job to check that the rehomer is the actual owner of the animal – we make no guarantees.

So – a lot of hoops to jump through….
